Come home to Placerville where small town friendliness is a staple and the nostalgic charm of yesteryear is all around. The Placerville Downtown Association (PDA) hosts events and activities throughout the year that promote a sense of community and build relationships that keep people come back to Historic Main Street.
Placerville was named after the placer deposits found in the river and creek beds around the town during the Gold Rush. While miners found gold in the rivers and creeks around town, Placerville became an important supply center for the surrounding mining camps.
Today, Historic Main Street has unique shops and top notch restaurants enjoyed by locals and tourists alike. Placerville is situated where highways 49 and 50 meet. We are minutes away from Coloma, where gold was first discovered at Sutter's Mill as well as minutes from the over 50 Apple Hill Farms and ranches and dozens of El Dorado County wineries and breweries. Less than an hour from downtown Sacramento and on the way to Lake Tahoe, don't let the stoplights be a frustration as you pass through, let them be your reminder to discover more than gold while you are here. Placerville Downtown is a great place to do business, too! See the About page to find out more about the many ways the PDA supports the business community.
